The kickoff business office of Installing Faux Wooden Beams was all most placing the supports on the ceiling. If you lot haven't checked out that post, click HERE for all the information most that. This is how it looked after 2 days of work:
Today I'm going to focus on the big, broad beam that I wanted to install at the rattling overstep of the slanted ceiling.
That beam was the 1 that gave us the most problem because every bit I said, it was BIG (heavy) too the ceiling was means also high.
It needed to move 18" broad ten 12' long. Since at that topographic point is no stuff inwards that width, I had to purchase a whole ½" Plywood sheet, which was ripped at the lumber yard to the width I wanted (18''). I got 2 pieces 18"W ten 8'L.
Both pieces were cutting at a 45° angle (Like when you lot are attaching 2 pieces of fabric, it ever looks improve when done inwards the diagonal), too to size, 12'.
Glue was applied to both ends too and thus both pieces were nailed to 2x2 supports on the dorsum (picture below).
More 2x2 supports were nailed every bit seen inwards the picture.
I decided to add together lights to this beam, after all, it's the highest too I had the infinite within the beam to accommodate small tin lights.
The iii circles were marked.
And cutting out. Cutting these pocket-size circles gave me the confidence to become too cutting the letters for the PB inspired Love Plaque. Remnants of this same stuff were used for that.
With the holes for the lights ready, it was fourth dimension to attach the side boards (1 ten 6s), on both sides.
I wanted the beams to select a pocket-size "reveal", where the sides protrude a flake from the bottom panel. To produce that, pocket-size samples of ¼" plywood were taped along the side. So every bit I was nailing the boards together, the 1x6s were kept even out to that sample.
When both sides were nailed down, this is how it looked:
After connecting the lights too caulking all those boom holes, the whole slice was create to move installed.
Up there! That was the worst business office of this whole project! For me that affair was H-E-A-V-Y! The kickoff fourth dimension nosotros tried to convey it up, it didn't fit, a flake to long on 1 side, thus it went downwards to move cutting exactly a tiny flake amongst the round out saw. To aid myself, I screwed that temporary back upwards on the wall thus I could remainder that animate beingness onto it.
The mo fourth dimension it fitted nicely along both 2x4's. It was heavily nailed to the 2x4 supports on both sides. To move certain it stays upwards there, 2 3"screws were driven on that same business on both sides, exactly behind each of the beams that become perpendicular to it, that means they cannot move seen afterwards on.
At the terminate of the solar daytime I was thus delight to banking concern check this business office off my list!
I see most making this beam out of Sheetrock, framing that high business office too and thus roofing it amongst the Sheetrock, but I exactly didn't desire it looking similar a soffit.
As I ever say you, I am non a professional, I'm exactly a dwelling identify possessor trying to update her home. Do you lot select whatsoever other ideas how this could select been done? I would beloved to remove heed most that inwards the comments section.
I withal require to fish the light's cable from the attic to 1 of the walls, that's going to move done inwards a duo of weeks. ;)
Next is break time, meet you lot soon!
